So, because Ancient Faith is no longer hosting blogs, it has been necessary to do some fancy footwork over the past few weeks so that those who have enjoyed reading A Lamp for Today can continue to do so. My WONDERFUL husband, who knows his way around WordPress, has been his usual invaluable self, and set things up for me on this, my personal blog, though I still have to add all previous blogs.
The idea for this blog (and its matching podcast) was to highlight the importance of the Old Testament for Orthodox, and those interested in Orthodoxy, since we do not typically read the Old Testament in Divine Liturgy, and many do not attend the full complement of weekly services. I began in 2015 with an initial series on how the Old Testament illumines the readings for Divine Liturgy, followed by the cycle of Troparia and Kontakia, then a study on the Apocalypse, next a reading of the Old Testament Canticles, and now finally, we are considering the Psalms as we use them in our worship from Saturday Great Vespers through the whole week.
THANK YOU to Chris, who has been my best friend for over 50 years, and my husband for 47, and counting. Because of his efforts, you will be able to find A Lamp for Today blog here on my personal site; Ancient Faith will continue to release the matching podcast of the same name. This week I have just published the seventh episode on Light from the Psalms, in which we turn to the use of the psalms in Matins. Soon, the rest of the archived blogs will be added!
While I am giving thanks, I also need to give a shout-out to Fr. Tom Soroka, who did the initial set-up for this personal blog, and to Chad Whitacre, who has continued to help his technologically challenged friend, that is, me! Thanks be to God for the gifts and abilities of our brothers and sisters in Christ, and also for the opportunities (along with the challenges) given through digital platforms.
